The 67th Independence Day Celebration Parade at the Victoria Park, Saltpond

As part of the 67th Independence Day Anniversary celebrations, the Mfantseman Municipal Assembly organised a parade for some selected schools in the Municipality on Wednesday 6th March, 2024 at the Victoria Park, Saltpond.

A number of schools were awarded for their march past whilst some former students of the Municipality were also awarded for their exemplary peformances in the BECE for 2022 and 2023.The celebration was under the theme “Our Democracy, Our Pride”.

The Municipal Chief Executive, Hon Ike Lord Ennu in his address encouraged school pupils in the Municipality to enforce the democracy the nation currently enjoys. He mentioned, “You are the torchbearers of this democracy which is not just a concept to be learned from textbooks; it is a responsibility to be embraced with passion and dedication. Our democracy thrives when everyone actively participates, engages in thoughtful discourse, and contributes to the dialogue that shapes our nation’s destiny. “He added, “I urge you all to remember that the strength of our democracy lies not just in the grandeur of our institutions but in the everyday choices we make. It’s in respecting diverse perspectives, upholding the values of justice and equality, and ensuring that every voice, regardless of age, race, creed or background, finds resonance in the corridors of power” he concluded.

An award ceremony was held for the best performing schools with Beach Road Primary winning coming first for Primary Schools whilst Bishop Lemaire Primary and SS Peter & Paul Primary came 2nd and 3rd respectively. For the Junior High Schools, Catholic Girls JHS came first whilst Al- Zakiya Islamic JHS came second with Catholic Boys JHS coming third

For Senior High Schools, there were only 2 competing schools with Mfantseman Girls SHS Cadet coming first whilst their counterparts from Methodist SHS came second.

Christabel Damalin Aka, formerly of Closefields School, Mankessim was awarded the best overall student in the Municipality for the 2022 BECE exams

The following also received awards for their performance in the BECE in 2023

  3. Olivia Esi Appiah
  4. Queenstar Amoah
