Sod-Cutting Ceremony for Integrated Bulk Storage Market Complex at Mankessim

On November 9, 2023, the Minister for Local Government, Decentralization, and Rural Development, along with his Technical Team, conducted a significant sod-cutting ceremony at Ansaadze, Mankessim, for the construction of an Integrated Bulk Storage Market Complex. This project, part of the Ghana Secondary Cities Support Program (GSCSP), is poised to have a substantial impact on the local community.

The event, which commenced at 5:16 pm, hosted dignitaries from various levels of government, including the Regional Minister, Member of Parliament, Municipal Chief Executives, and other key stakeholders. The Master of Ceremony, Mr. Abeiku Essiffie, introduced the notable guests, while Okyeame Nana Gyasi presented the revered Paramount Chief of Mankessim Traditional Area, Osagyefo Amanfu Edu VI, and other royal figures.

Osagyefo Amanfu Edu VI, serving as the Chairman, expressed gratitude for the support and emphasized the historical significance of the Mankessim market. He thanked the government for recognizing the municipality and acknowledged the Ellis Quansah family, the landowners, for their pivotal role in facilitating the project.

Municipal Chief Executive, IKE LORD ENNU, highlighted the transformative nature of the government’s projects and committed to their timely execution. The Member of Parliament, Hon. Ophelia Mensah Hayford, echoed the sentiment, emphasizing the need for larger market facilities to address sanitation and traffic issues in the Central Business Area.

The Central Regional Minister, Hon. Marigold Justina Assan, acknowledged the collaborative efforts that led to the project’s commencement and pledged to advocate for more developmental initiatives in the municipality.

Despite his late arrival, Hon. Dan Botwe, the Minister for Local Government, expressed his elation at the warm reception and commended the vibrancy of the Mankessim community. He highlighted the importance of improving conditions at the district level for socioeconomic development, praising the Mfantseman Municipal Assembly for qualifying for annual donor funding through Districts Performance Assessment Tools.

The Minister revealed that the projects under UDG 3,4&5 were estimated at over GH 55 million, emphasizing the government’s determination to enhance the lives of Ghanaians. He concluded by stating that similar projects were underway in other regions, aligning with the President’s passion for improving livelihoods.

 

The sod-cutting ceremony, a symbolic event attended by dignitaries and the enthusiastic crowd, marked the official commencement of the project, reflecting the government’s commitment to socioeconomic development in Mankessim. The ceremony concluded at 7:00 pm with brief remarks from the KE & T consult.
