The Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Ike Lord Ennu, as part of his itinerary, participated in the 62nd Speech and Prize Giving Day of the Mfantseman Girls Senior High School, under the theme, Solution Based Training for Girls; The Panacea for Academic Excellence.
Also, in attendance were; Hon. K.K Essuman, former MCE for Mfantseman, Mr. Justice Amoah, Mfantseman Municipal Coordinating Director, Nana Kwesi Brebo III, Acting President, Nkusukum Traditional Area, Bishop Dr. Lawson Agyei, PTA & Board Chairman for Mfantseman Girls, Members of Mfantseman Old Girls Association (MOGA), Past Heads and Senior House Mistresses of the school.
According to the MCE, Hon. Ophelia Quansah Hayford, Member of Parliament for the area, is poised to support the school to complete the ongoing projects. He again said the promise made by his predecessor Hon. K.K Essuman and the former MP for the area, the Late Hon. Ekow Quansah Hayford to support the school with some One Hundred (100) bags of cement could not be fulfilled due to COVID 19 and that, he will ensure the promise is redeemed before the end of year.
Further, he admonished the students to be of good behavior and also take their academic work seriously so that, they would also be described as ‘women of substance’ and also worthy of celebration, just like the Guest Speaker who happened to be an old student of the school. Again, he implored them to come back to support their alma mater when the time is due. He said the Government of Ghana is spending huge amount of the Nation`s resource (money) on the Free Senior High School programmer and so they should study hard to compensate the investment the nation is making on their future. On that note, he appealed to parents to partner the teachers (school) for a mutual benefit.
Finally, he applauded the teachers for their good work and urged them to continue in that regard.
The guest speaker, Professor Nana Ama Browne Klutse congratulated the graduating students for a successful completion and also advised them to be mindful of their lives outside the school. She also admonished to the continuing students to take their studies seriously in order to guarantee a good future for themselves.
Moreover, students should take advantage of every opportunity at their disposal to maximize their chances of succeeding in life as their motto says ‘Obra Nyi Woarabo’.
The headmistress, Mrs. Phillis Arthur Simpson Stated that 62 years in the life of a school is worth celebrating and it offers the opportunity to take stock of your activities in order to make the necessary changes to better your lots going forward. She disclosed that the present number of student was more than Five Thousand (5000) with only One Hundred and Forty-Six (146) teachers handling them isn’t easy and applauded the teachers doing a great work as a result translated into many achievements. She also mentioned the following as projects and equipment received from the government such as 1 storey dormitory block completed,2 storey emergency dormitory block ongoing,12 units’ classroom block completed,24 units’ classroom block ongoing,1500 classroom furniture,520 students’ beds,440 mattresses, 90 pieces of office chairs, 2 notice boards, 26 teachers’ tables and chairs, 2 pianos, PPE`S for students, 65 seater bus.
All the 146 teachers received a laptop under the 1 teacher 1 laptop project by the government.
Mrs. Phillis Arthur Simpson Stated that, although the government has been generous to them by way of project delivery, the school still has a lot of challenges. To this end she appealed to the stakeholders to come to their aid by way of helping them to fence the school. She said there has been incidences of encroacher and intruders invading their land which poses a threat to the students, also they may lose portions of their land to encroachers. The head mistress again appealed for a 5000 capacity assembly hall, more classroom and dormitory blocks and rehabilitation of the school field. In conclusion, she said the management of Mfantseman Girls is working tirelessly to place the school on top of the academic ladder.
The chairman Dr. Anna Ewusie Mensah admonished the students to be guided by the school`s motto that says ‘Obra Nye Woarabo’ and also reiterated the calls by the various speakers to them not to forget to give back to their alma mater when the time is due, she said this would be possible only if they take their studies seriously to achieve whatever height they wish for in the future.
