In line with government policy of empowering Persons with Disability (PWDs) into the mainstream of development and self-reliance, the District Assembly Common Fund for PWDs in the Mfantseman Municipality was disbursed.

A total amount of Twenty-eight Thousand, Six hundred and sixty-five Ghana Cedis (GHc28, 665.00) was disbursed to twenty-five (25) PWDs who applied for assistance to improve their Livelihood. Below is the breakdown;

  • Education: Four (4) students were supported. Two (2) are tertiary students and Two (2) from the Cape Coast Special School for the Deaf. (GHS 3,915.00)
  • Income Generating Activities: Twenty(20) people were into income generating activities. Six (6) individuals were provided with items such as Deep Freezers, Fufu Pounding Machines and the like. Fourteen (14) individuals were given cheques to start and revamp their businesses. (GHS 23,750.00)
  • One (1) person was assisted in her apprenticeship (seamstress), (GHS 1,000.00)

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon Ike Lord Ennu was delighted to meet Persons with Disability in the Municipality and had discussions with them. He emphatically stated that his administration will fully ensure that the PWD funds get to the right individuals for the intended purpose. The MCE entreated them to make good use of the money and items procured to improve their life.

They were encouraged to inform Persons with Disability who have not registered with Assembly through the Social Welfare Department to do so to enable them also benefit from the fund.
